E.S. Messing Around on the Monkey Bars: and other school poems for two voices contains, as the title suggests, 19 poems about school. Some lines are in regular font while others are bolded so that the poems can be read by two people, two groups or one person and a group. Of course one can simply enjoy them alone as they all relate to the familiar subject of school. A few sample titles include Wild Bus Ride, Jenny's Pencil, Weird Stuff in the Lost and Found, and Homework Blues. An author's note explains the differences in typography and Adventurous Ways to Read the Poems at the end of the book gives various suggestions for 7 of the poems.

ES Rain Forest Romp is a fun rhyming book featuring several animals found in the South American rain forest. Very short simple characteristics about each one is presented: The tapir is a mammal./it's hoofed and rather stout./It sniffs for tasty plant life/with its clever, stretchy snout. The ink and water color illustrations by Ant Parker are bright and colorful. At the end, there are nine additional animals to find hidden throughout the book. Though one or two of the rhymes may not be perfect, the book is a fun introduction to the rain forest for a younger audience.

ES Honest Abe Lincoln: Easy- to- read stories about Abraham Lincoln is a Holiday House Reader, level 2 ,by David Adler. It contains 7 short stories: Abe Lincoln, Honest Abe Lincoln, Post Office In A Hat, Stuck in Mud, A Talent for Hunting, Why Abraham Lincoln Grew A Beard, and President Abraham Lincoln. In Post Office In A Hat, we learn that in 1833 Abraham Lincoln was made post master of New Salem, Illinois. Lincoln did not like sitting in his office all day waiting for people to come collect their mail. Many days he would put the mail inside his hat and go out looking for people he knew. If he found them, he would take off his hat and give them their mail. Complete with table of contents, important dates, sources and notes, this will be a welcome addition for early readers.

+ BOOKLIST (4/1/09) "a most welcome introduction... to marine biology"
*** HORN BOOK (July 09) "excellent details..."
+ KIRKUS REVIEW (4/15/09) "intriguing introduction..."
SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL (4/1/09) positive
Interesting book about the marine world of the deep. As the book moves down through the depths, as bar on the right side of the 2-page-spread displays the level down into the ocean. The information is introductory but there is an additional paragraph at the end of the book which discusses each animal and gives its relative size to a hand or grown person. There is no contents or index but a brief introduction sets the stage for the trip into the depths. The age level is a bit of a question but I think the right reader will be happy when they find the book. Recommended as needed.
